I had a blast this morning co-hosting the morning show here in Twin Falls on Hot 100 FM with James Rabe!

I sang a cover of Who Says by Selena Gomez, an original song called “Perfect Man,” and I was challenged to write and sing a song about Pringles! You can check them out on the Hot 100 FM facebook page!

I <3 radio! Thanks, James and the Hot 100 FM team, for having me!

I think I’ll write songs about silly things all the time!

New Album and Fan Club

We live in a home that does not have air conditioning. We often have every window open and every fan in the house turned on high. For a while, we had a swimming pool in the backyard, and one hot day I was inspired to write a song.

The song is called, “Like a Kid Again.” This is probably my favorite song that I’ve written. Here are a few of the lyrics that I love:

There’s something about a trampoline and a best friend; stars bright, late nights.

There’s something sweet about an ice cream sundae, back before I ever worried about Monday.

Like a kid again building forts out of blankets and tables and chairs.

Want more?

My attempts to start a campaign to raise music for my new album were put on hold because I don’t have a very big following yet. So I’ve decided to start a fan club for those of you who have been wanting more info and updates on this new album! :)

Anyone who joins will get my first single, “Wake Up” for free as well as email updates about the making of the new album. You’ll be the first to know release dates, the album name, names and lyrics of new songs, events, etc… I’ll also be sharing behind the scenes photos, video, and demos of my songs that won’t be released to the public. There is something really raw and vulnerable about me sharing these intimate things with you, but I feel like it will be so good for me to express myself through music to my biggest fans :)

I am so excited for the album to come together. It’s taking a totally different path than I first envisioned. I can’t wait to share more!

A big THANK YOU for all the support and love!

Mindy’s New Album!

So, I have many, many musical inspirations. One of these is Mindy Gledhill. She writes her own music and records it independently. She still does so well and touches so many people with her music. Someday, I hope my music reaches out to help someone listening. I hope it’s exactly what they need to hear. I’ve teared up, and probably actually cried like a baby while listening to some songs on her album Anchor.

One of the songs that tugs at my heartstrings is called “Hourglass.” It talks about how fast time goes by, how kids grow up all too quickly, and how precious our time is with these sweet little ones.

I have been meaning to do a cover of this song for some time now. So, I’m pleased to announce that I finally sat down and filmed it.

Mindy is working on a new album right now in Nashville. (I’m trying not to be jealous! ;))
You can check out her blog here: http://mindygledhill.blogspot.com/
Don’t forget to pledge and be a part of the new album here: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/mindygledhill

I am excited to see what new musical poetry awaits us in this new album. I can’t wait!

Being a True Friend

Be a true friend

I’ve been thinking a lot about friendship and love lately. These topics make for great songs!

I think that being a true friend is loving someone enough to care about how you make him or her feel. It’s doing your best to make this person feel special and important. It’s going out of your way to help and serve him or her whenever possible, with no expectations attached.

Love is much the same. Someone I look up to once said, “True love is not so much a matter of romance as it is a matter of anxious concern for the well-being of one’s companion.” (Gordon B. Hinkley)

“Anxious concern for the well-being” of another person is also important of true friendships. I heard this quote today by Elder Richard G. Scott, “Be a true friend. This kind of enduring friendship is like asphalt that fills the potholes of life and makes the journey smoother and more pleasant.”

What more enjoyable way to travel through life than with good company.

As I’ve recently been writing and pondering what it is I truly want from life, I’ve found myself coming up with two main things: Good relationships and good experiences. I believe both can be found no matter your situation in life.

One last quote I’d like to reference is by John Cassis: “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”

Generally speaking, when you make it a priority to be kind to others, to serve others, and to be a true friend, you’ll become an important person in their lives anyway.

Being a Mommy

Being Mom

Some days I forget.

I forget how extremely blessed I am!

I’ve been given these amazing little ones to love and to teach.

And that is AMAZING.

I was watching a music video today. It had a young woman dancing around with a bunch of her friends singing about how great it was to be young and to be single and free. A part of me wonders what it would be like to be in my twenties and not have kids. What would I be doing? Where would I live? Who would be my friends? And, most importantly, would I be happy?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that we can’t live our lives wondering “what if?” Doing so will only lead to sadness and regret. Wherever we are in our lives, we can make it special. We can make today great! We are experiencing life the way we’ve created it. And, some of the experiences that I am having are experiences that someone else would give up anything to have.

So, for me, being a Mom is the best! I love it! And today was an especially good day where I could SEE it (I mean, look at that picture! Isn’t he the cutest?).

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, breathe it in. Don’t let this moment pass you by. Decide that today is a good day.
